Smalldean Lane

Closure !

EKFB have just announced that they will close the diversion for 16 months from 13th May. - see this AWN. The proposed footpath diversion is quite long, while the alternative cycle route involves climbing to Dunsmore & descending - by a route which is challenging even for mountain bikes. The A413 ? dont even think about it...

This closure is in breach of undertaking 979 made during the Hybrid Bill process -

“The Secretary of State will require the Nominated Undertaker to use reasonable endeavours to incorporate the following measures for non-motorised users subject to any required approvals from the highway authority under Schedule 4 to the Bill (as enacted) and subject to sufficient land being available within the limits of land that may be acquired or used under the Act and subject to the requisite powers being granted under the Act.

a) Small Dean Lane, District of Aylesbury Vale - a temporary off-carriageway route during construction within the verge of Small Dean Lane between the construction site entrance and the A413 roundabout suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. "

Local organisations are attempting to have EKFB implement a more acceptable solution.

EKFB have now provided a bridleway diversion around their works on Smalldean Lane. The lane is now closed, but the diversion crosses the haul road at a manned crossing, and is expected to be open to traffic 24/7. If you encounter any problems, please let us know.

The total distance from the roundabout to the bottom of Chesham Lane (the hill up to Kings Ash) is 1.4m, with around 180' of ascent. The path can accomodate even the widest of bicycles -
